What Type of Wedding Music Should I Choose?
Your options include:
-
Wedding singers (lead vocals with backing tracks, or paired with acoustic guitar or keys)
-
Acoustic duo options for ceremony + background music during canapés
-
Trios and full piece band line-ups for a packed dance floor
-
Cover band sets built around those irresistible dance floor hits
-
String quartets or other elegant ceremony options for a classic feel
-
DJs for late-night dance music (option to pair with a band or solo singer as a hybrid package)
Have a special song in mind? Let us know. Many of our wedding musicians and bands are willing to learn specific songs requested by the couple for their special day.
And if you already have a full song list of must-play choices, we can help you choose the best fits for key moments like your entrance and first dance. We’ll also help shape a practical set list so the energy builds naturally from guest arrival to dinner music into late-night dance music.

Live bands and singers often provide a more emotional and memorable experience compared to recorded music. On the other hand, DJs offer far a wider range of music options and are typically more affordable.
The choice between live music and a DJ often depends on the couple's budget and the type of atmosphere they want to create. Hybrid packages that combine a live act with a DJ are a popular option when you want the best of both worlds, with live music for the key moments and a DJ set to keep the dance floor moving later in the night.
To make planning easier, think in sections and choose the right format for each:
-
Ceremony music: wedding singer, solo acoustic, acoustic duo, or string quartets
-
Canapés and cocktail hour: relaxed background music with room for song requests
-
Dinner: unobtrusive dinner music that suits the room
-
Reception: cover band or full piece band built for dance floor fillers, plus dance music later if you add a DJ
WHY CHOOSE US?
Your wedding doesn't happen every day.
It's one of the most important days of your life.
It's a day you'll remember forever.
A day with a dance floor, live music and talented event entertainers.
You want people with music experience who know weddings inside out.
You want people who will ensure your wedding is everything you've ever imagined.
You want people you can trust.
ESS are those people.

The ESS team are entertainment industry veterans who've been supplying wedding music across Sydney for close to a decade. That time has been spent working real weddings, not just booking acts. We still perform as MCs, DJs, and live musicians, which means every recommendation comes from direct performance experience of what works on a wedding day and what causes issues if it’s overlooked.
All musicians and bands are carefully vetted before being offered to couples. We review demos, background information, and the equipment each act brings, so there are no surprises on the day. Every act can supply their own professional audio setup, including PA systems, microphones, mixers, and dance floor lighting where required, allowing the music to sound right without relying on venue equipment.
We also understand how the wedding industry and wedding venues operate. Over the years, we’ve worked closely with multiple Sydney wedding venues and have experience coordinating bump-in times, soundchecks, and run sheets around venue schedules. When couples want support, we’re happy to liaise directly with the venue so entertainment timing fits smoothly around food service, speeches, and formalities.
Planning is handled through a clear, proven process designed to reduce stress. After booking, we guide couples through music selections for key moments, do-not-play requests, speech timing, and reception flow. Details are locked in well ahead of the day, with confirmations sent to all performers in the lead-up so nothing is left to chance.
If something unexpected happens, we have the depth to respond. In the vanishingly rare case that a booked act becomes unavailable due to accident, illness or other emergency, we organise a replacement at no extra cost. We also ensure all performers carry public liability insurance, which many venues require. With music, MC, and DJ services available through one team, couples deal with fewer suppliers and have one point of contact for their wedding entertainment.

Wedding Music Packages AND Pricing Explained
Wedding entertainment costs vary because every booking is a little different. The final price usually depends on the size of the act, how long you need music for, what’s included in the setup, and the timings across your day.
As a general guide, the cost to hire live wedding music in Sydney ranges from $800 to $5,000+ depending on the line-up and requirements. Most couples secure their preferred date with a 30% deposit, with the balance due closer to the wedding.
What Affects the Cost:
-
Line-up size: duo, trio, or full band
-
Duration: ceremony only, reception only, or multiple parts of the day
-
Add-ons: DJ add-on for later in the evening, and MC services
-
Logistics: bump-in access and start and finish times
-
Travel requirements: to regional locations such as the Southern Highlands, South Coast, Central Coast, Hunter Valley, etc.
How to Get an Accurate Quote:
Send us your date, venue location, guest count, and parts of the day you want covered. If you already know the vibe you’re chasing, include that too, and we’ll recommend the right package level rather than pushing you into something bigger than you need.
ARE THOSE PEOPLE
Bring YOUR WEDDING SOUNDTRACK TO LIFE
If you’re dreaming of heartfelt vocals, soulful acoustic sets, or a wedding band that creates a party atmosphere like no other, we’ve got you covered. Explore our most popular live music options below, each one designed to make your day sound exactly like you imagined.

Live Wedding Bands in Sydney
A live wedding band in Sydney brings energy you can feel in the room. The right band also takes pressure off you because the music carries transitions through the night, not just the big moments.
Wedding Cover Bands & Rock Bands
Wedding bands in Sydney predominantly play cover songs, including both current hits and classic favourites, so your guests hear party starters they already know and can jump into. A good cover band keeps the set balanced so it works for different ages, not just one group.
If you want more edge, rock bands can work well for later sets when the dance floor is already warm. If you want more groove, you can steer the band toward pop songs or funk and soul music styles. For reference, that can mean the feel of artists like Bruno Mars, Marvin Gaye, and Bill Withers, without locking you into specific songs.

Band Sizes: Duo, Trio, Full Piece Band

The size of your live band changes the sound and the way the night feels. It also affects how much variety the band can cover in a live setting.
-
Duos suit smaller rooms or earlier parts of the night where flexibility matters
-
Trios add more depth and movement while staying adaptable
-
A full piece band is built for bigger sound, stronger dynamics, and a full dance floor
If you are unsure what size works best, start with your venue and guest count, then match the wedding band to the atmosphere you want once dancing starts.

Wedding Singers IN SYDNEY
Choose a Sydney wedding singer if you want the ceremony to feel personal and intimate. Solo vocalists are popular choices for creating an intimate atmosphere during wedding ceremonies.
Wedding Singer or Acoustic Singer-Guitarist
A skilled wedding singer or solo acoustic act is a great fit when you want heartfelt vocals and a clean, simple setup. This option suits:
-
Walking down the aisle and signing moments
-
A relaxed start to the day that still feels special
-
Smaller rooms where you want the music present, not overpowering
-
Ceremony music with layered vocals and acoustic guitar
-
Cocktail hour sets that feel lively without taking over
-
Background music during canapés while guests mingle and sign the guest book
Solo acoustic acts also work well when you want a smooth shift from ceremony to social time without changing the mood too sharply.

Wedding DJs & Hybrid Music Packages
If you want the most flexibility on the night, a Sydney wedding DJ is hard to beat. DJs can offer a wide range of music options and often have the ability to read the crowd to keep the dance floor lively, which is ideal once the formalities are done and everyone just wants to move.

Wedding DJs Who Read the Room
A great wedding DJ does more than play requests. They watch what’s happening on the floor and adjust quickly so the momentum doesn’t drop. That means mixing genres across generations, shifting tempo when needed, and keeping the dance floor active as the night goes on.
If you have a clear vision, tell us early. Couples get the best result when they communicate their preferences clearly, including what you want more of and what you don’t want played.
Band + DJ Hybrid Packages
Hybrid packages that include both a band and a DJ are popular for balancing the experience between ceremony, dinner, and late-night party music. You get the live performance where it matters most, then a DJ later to keep the energy up and cover a wider range of musical styles.
Many wedding bands in Sydney offer DJ packages for later in the evening to energise the reception, and it’s a simple way to keep the night moving without changing the tone of your event.
MC Services for Weddings
A great Sydney wedding MC keeps the room with you, so the big moments land well and the pace never feels awkward. They guide the formalities, keep the room on the same page, and make sure the key moments land the way you planned.
Many wedding singers also act as MCs during the reception, which can be a simple way to keep the night running smoothly without handing the microphone to a friend or relative. If you choose an MC through ESS, we’ll confirm your run sheet in advance so introductions, speeches, cake cutting, and your first dance happen at the right time.
